Started re build of PDWA switch. About an hour to try and remove shuttle - no wonder after 18 years. I had a spare PDWA sitting around that's older than mine but that shuttle is going to take a lot more effort to remove. I don't have a compressor but I don't think even that is going to work as that shuttle is stuck on hard towards the rear of the shaft.
Pulled out the Dremmel to polish the brass, got a bit lazy to fit a mask so breathing in dried glycol dust wasn't much fun nor very tasty.. Then I tried this Autosol product I had on the shelf. A bit on an old toothbrush with little effort and it removed every single stain! Even put some on a cotton bud and it cleaned out the shaft beautifully with the shuttle now moving really freely as well in the shaft. It was amazing how little effort was involved and how well this product worked. Hasn't done too badly also on a lot of the old chrome bits.
Changing over to silicone brake (DOT 5) fluid as I can tell that the glycol stuff just has too many disadvantages with classic cars.
Amazing too that all bits seemed renewable after over 40 years except for the O rings of course which I should easily be able to source from a variety of retailers rather than the usual suspects.
