    TWO petrol vent/drains in boot???

Looking at the pipe work near the fuel pump in the boot I notice that I have a spare (clear plastic) vent or drainage pipe which leads down through the floor of the boot. This is in addition to the vent pipework from the cap (which incorporates the filter). The top of this pipe is not attached to anything. Should it be? I can't see any of anywhere obvious to connect it to.

Subsidiary question is why is a filter needed on a vent pipe which drains onto the road. Or is it only to stop creepy crawlies coming up into the fuel system?

    Thanks.

It acts as a flame trap rather than a filter

Yes one is a vent pipe with filter out through the boot floor, the other from the filler cap straight down and out through the boot floor for when you over fill the petrol tank.

Or, as one of the previous owners had arranged mine, the drain for the fuel filler cap went into the fuel tank. Great if if rained..........

The photo was posted by Julian Leyton a couple of years back. I assumed it was his car. It is the same colour as his....

Many thanks, all. Truly, a jpeg is worth a 1000 words! (Shakespeare).

Stray pipe now connected (by feel). In contrast to the photo, my two drain pipes leave the boot next to each other, just behind the rear wheel arch.
