    New Stag

    Hi All

I have started saving for my next Stagbut wondered should I buy one with a RV8/TVRV8 next time to lessen the Stag paranoia effect on my fragile nature:?

I like Stoutgooses RV8 Stag which is well sorted or should I stick with what I now best?

i would like to do one with a rv8 in it as well - two of the same will be a bit boring imo. If you have a balls out car and an original one you have the best of both worlds then

      Hi Stuart
I dont think that it matters which engine you have as long as you are happy with the car,i am so pleased that you will be back to stag ownership,it was sad when i read that you had to sell your last stag.
I have to say i love the stag engine . . . but i do have a lot of time for the rover lump, and the inherent reliability that comes with it.
      Good Luck

I wanted to convert one of mine to RV8 because the head gaskets had gone on an otherwise sound car.I was put off bynot finding someone willing to do the conversionand the subsequent devalueing of car.

If i could have got someone to do it i would have gone for a larger capacity and sorted suspension and diff etc. to cope with power.Maybe one day.

Well Stuart, Then I am afraid you are going to be a "Them" instead of a "us" if you go for a RV8..:P

Stuart, good for you and something to look forward too. I wouldstick with the TV8 and just wait for one to come along, it will. We have a few that change hands in our area meetings and the advantage is that you know the car.

              Good on you

Stu ,depends how far you are going to take it .Stout Steves level of car would cost a lot to do,if you can find a stag like hiswith all the mods done to a good standard i would go for it.If its just had a rover lump thrown in to get it up and running i wouldn'tbother.Standard tune rover would be ok with all the stag drive train,Steve's 250-300 bhp tuned unit would make a mess of the standard setup so you are looking at drivetrain ,suspension and brake upgrades (not cheap)

                Cheers Steve

If it already has an RV8 in it then you won't have devalued it - you'll simply be able to benefit from the, usually, lower purchase price.

Having already sampled a TV8 if you are after something slightly different then why not go the Rover route - just make sure the conversion has been done properly.

It's your money, your choice etc. so choose what you'll enjoy most :dude:

Can't beat the sound of a TV8 for me, but it does bite back sometimes. I used to have an SD1 V8 and the engine was super reliable, but if I had a choice now it would be a TV8 every time

I know you are going to shout at me for this, but what is the use of owning a Triumph Stag without its soul... the engine. Most of the time when strangers ask me "what you got in there mate" I now always reply Triumph engine of course.

The Triumph engine is part and parcel of ownership reliable or unreliable period.

Nice to see you are heading back towards stag ownership, as for engine choice IMHO the TV8 is original andsound the best, as for the RV8 more reliableand is endlessly tunable...tough choice.:?
