Does anyone have experience with the Water Pump Removal Tool from Rimmer - P/N RB7009 - DIY spec? Does it get the job done?

I bought one to do my pump but the pump came out easily using a slide hammer with a claw under the bolt head before the Rimmers part arrived so I have no actual experience. However, I can tell you that it is just a LH thread bolt with a lifting eye welded on to it!

As you will need a new LH thread bolt anyway, order up two and weld a lifting ring yourself to one of them I would say.

Thanks - that is helpful to know what they are charging for at least!

I guess where this started going wrong was me assuming it was a RHD bolt in the first place

I've got to get a complete set of gaskets to rebuild the engine etc too on this trip.

Are the 6 vane pumps OK? I thought about replacing the 6 vane with a 12 vane one and getting a new cover ... but as they (Rimmers) want £164 plus export shipping I thought Maybe not!!

Looking at my block one of the water ways is still plugged with gunge that I can only suspect is casting sand - anyone like a photo? If so, I will take one and post it.

Are BL still taking Warranty claims on this:P

I went through a lot of papers on the water pump subject. The long and the short of it is that the 6 vane generally is considered to be better.

When I tried to get the impellor off of mine it wouldn't budge at all. Went through all of the heating, cooling, PlusGas stuff, then finally decided to put a puller on it. Was just in the process of nipping up the puller by hand to leave it under slight pressure overnight and the vane literally shattered like thin glass into a shower of shards!

Peter of LD Parts talked me through the rest of the story. I got a new old stock 6-vane and the ceramic washer and machining from him.

Rest of pump came apart easy (as soon as I realised there was a well hidden circlip!)

If impellor is stuck on the shaft, get a large block of wood, bore a deep hole in it so the pump shaft sits in it and the impellor is supported all around its circumference. Only then consider tapping the shaft through the impellor (with suitable protection to ensure the shaft top itself doesn't get damaged!)

            Thanks Drew

Certainly something to consider when I eventually get my pump out! I dont want any more breakages and if the 6 vane pump is better then goodie!
