Oil Seal - inner drive shaft

    Guys,

I've got a small drip of oil from the area of the inner driveshaft where it enters the diff. As changing this oil seal seems to entail getting the inner flange off the taper shaft and, as far as I can determine from the ROM, removing the bearing, is this going to be such a pig of a job as the outer driveshaft bearing and flange requiring 10 ton presses?

I can't just replace the oil seal without splitting the set-up can I?

    Cheers

    Drew

Not straight forward need a big press, or buy an exchange one from Paddocks. Not sure what bearings they use, but given the price I suspect they are not timken etc.

In answer to your question Drew, No ! and unfortunately it can take more that a 10 ton press to release the flange and they can go with a BANG !!, the flange needs to be well supported to prevent distortion.

Bu$$er, I was hoping those shenanigans were limited to the outer hubs. The Paddocks link, however, gives me an idea which wasn't present when I saw the Rimmers' outright price of £270 a piece! Order up two Paddocks shafts, pay the excess, fit them and remove my originals. Then I've got time to overhaul my original ones using RHP bearings etc. from LD or similar. At some time, swap them back and send the Paddocks ones back to claim the excess back!

I've probably got the right extractors as I bought a job lot of Churchill rear hub tools from an old Triumph dealer, although they seem to be designed around the outer hub.

        Thanks for the pointers lads

Drew maybe you can make one of these bolt on screw up tight. Then use a Club hammer or heavy duty air gun to shock apart.

I'm doing the same thing..My 10t puller no good, took it to my local garage, they said they couldn't do it, went to a local heavy engineering workshop. They got it off, sounded like a shotgun going off. have done the L/hand one yet. Now got to make a locking arm to hold the drive flange so I can do the nut up again
