    Door cards

I'm in the process of replacing my door cards. I ordered a new set of plastic cups and metal clips from Robsport, but I can't seem to make them line up on the bottom of either door card and the back edge of the driver's card won't stay in.

I really don't want to have to use screws along the bottom edge as per the cards I removed, but I'm struggling to see another solution. Is there a knack to this job, or are the clips just a bit poor?

I have managed to accumulate 3 types of clips over the years. Forgotten who they all came from!
I have however noticed that the factory originals that appeared on my car (the bottom clip in the photo) are the only ones that have ever effectively held the door trims in place..
Some of the others hold okay if there is little pressure from the door card/trim.

Have you bought the door cards yet?

That’s interesting because I have six door cards, including a pair of late Mk2 ones, and all have the top clips in your photo.

Curious as that is a lot of panels you have with those clips. So probably may have been several types ex Factory you would therefore think. Others may know more on this.
I have a pair of Mark 1 door panels from a Mark 1 USA car imported here in Australia (in the nineties) and three Aust delivered Mark II cars I have known for 26 years. All have had the lower clips hence why we think this type was as least one style ex factory.
We have found these to be far superior but not sure if you can get this type any more?

One of the local members had complained to me about the very same problem this week with the top clip in the photo. I promised him I would sacrifice a few of the bottom clip out of my prized clip stash!
I would suggest Sam Skelton to keep persisting rather than use screws along the bottom edge.

I’ve always struggled to get the door card to fit or stay put when using the clips. Now I use strong double sided sponge tape it works a treat.

I too have seen top & bottom pic types. Double sided tape idea is interesting!

I do know that Triumph cars that were built in Australia sometimes used locally sourced parts. Were any a Stags built there or were they imported complete or as CKD?

Yes - I've had the door cards in the shed for a couple of years now; they're good used ones that suit the general condition of the car. I don't want to use screws hence why I'm posting here - it might be that I'm missing something and I have no intention of giving up at the first hurdle. The previous owner used screws in the old door cards - unevenly spaced and at odd heights - I'm definitely pleased to have binned them!

DJT - are the LDParts clips really better than the Robsport ones? Half of my problem is that along the bottom of the doors, the holes in the doors won't accept the plastic cups.

That is very true as some may know. The Triumph Herald came to Australia in 'complete knock down' form and was assembled right here in Melbourne from 1959 to 1966. Also Triumph did the same with the 2000/2500 from 1964 onwards.
Now I have just checked my 2500S door panels and the top clips in my photo were used on that car, the plot thickens mole42! The 2500S door panels do not have the weight, bulk or size of the Stag ones. They are a very easy straight fit compared to the Stag with none of the 'pulling away' pressure.
It is possible but I doubt very much these clips were ever Australian made, they would have all come here from the UK. As for the door cards for the 2500S however they look like they were locally made, along with local door vinyl trim, seat trim, carpets, some glass panels etc.
As for local assembly of the Stag, Lord Stokes himself put the stoppers on us assembling the Stag here from the start. It was either going to be fully imported or not at all!
Not sure if that was a good or bad thing?

the door panels on a Mk1 are heavier than that of a mk2. (slightly ) my mk1 uses the bottom type. can't recall the top type. but I do have a few of the top type in my parts bin.

I believe so. They are the best I’ve used.
