    A/C Dryer

I am attempting to revive my Air Con system. I don't really know too much about A/C systems but I'll give it a crack anyway... I will replace the compressor with a modern rotary compressor and probably new condenser, expansion valve and dryer. The dryer has me stumped. There is a port that hooks up to a flare fitting attached to the Ranco pressure switch. What do I do about this, I cannot seem to source a dryer with this unique port.

What can I do about this switch and dryer combo? It appears that the Ranco switch connects to and controls the compressor clutch as well as the condenser fans? Is this correct? Can I replace the Ranco switch with a regular high pressure switch.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

I am also looking at doing the same. I'm leaning towards giving it to a A/C company Drier available on ebay.com. But it don't stop there lol

I have gone through the process myself and I would advise that it is a job you can tackle on your own and save (lots of) dollars for the re gas/trouble shooting/dye in the system etc. if needed. The key is to have a fairly good knowledge of the modern industry and the cars system, which incidentally is quite a good set up. I think it was designed/based on the Jaguar XJ which was launched a couple of years earlier.
I have quite a bit of knowledge, hints etc to happily share. Maybe a good idea to send me a PM to begin with before you start spending any money.
Eventually it would be good to have the AC system and its hybrids etc under the Technical section.

If you are replacing the compressor you may want to go ahead and use a modern dryer with switch ports as well and eliminate the ranco. You can get flare to o-ring adapters or connecting hoses can be made up for you with different type of connections each end to interface the old and new.

There are loads of retro a/c companies out there Try these guys, the website has some good info. I bought all my stuff from them.
