I think that's a 'how long is a piece of string' type question. However, I'd recommend you check with other classic car owners or SOC members locally - they'll know the MOT testers who'll interpret the rules in a more classic car friendly/savvy way than others. Don't forget to take along details of the cars unleaden weight (2,770 lb. or 1255 kg.) as this will not be on the MOT computer database and will be needed for the brake test.

I would also make sure you have the handbook and manual with you so you can explain Stag features such as original seatbelts that don't lock when they are pulled. It's possible you may also find endfloat in the rear hubs being questioned.

I think you will be lucky to get away with play in the steering column. If it is just the top bearing HRS do a clamping ring that replaces the serrated washer. Easy to fit and solved the problem on my car.

If your car hasn't been through the computerised system it would be best to take the logbook with you. The tester couldn't find my car on the system and I ended up going back home to get the logbook. Turned out that DVLA had kindly added a fullstopin my commission number.

          Hi Steve,

I had the same question and a pal of mine who also owns a stag took me to "Berkeley MOT service" at Cranford on the A4 at Heathrow. They are excellent and are all into classics and motorbikes. Very thorough and understanding of "oldies". Usual problems with computer database and stags but they know all about it and solved it really quick. Their number is 020 8759 0144, suggest you ring and book as they are really busy. I live in Windlesham so the distance is similar to you from Bracknell.

          regards

One thing you may find with the new system is that the DVLA computer doesn't recognise the letter 'O' in VINs, so if you have an o/d Stag the 'O' at the end will probably be entered into the database as a numeral '0'.

I have queried this with the DVLA and FHBVC but with no luck. Just one of those pesky 'computer things'.
