Mines 1897 bought in 1991 for £58k now worth $hit loads more unfortunately.......youngsters can't get on the property ladder
And thats disgusting
oops going completely off subject,soz
In 1985 we designed our own house built by a local builder on a Hill overlooking Conwy Castle, Conwy River and the Snowdonia Mountain range.
It was actually cheaper to design and have built our own than buy a similar sized "off the peg" house, as no Sales people were involved, the builder getting his money up front as the house was being built, as we had arranged a "staged payment mortgage" with our Building Soceity, which meant the Building Soceity paid the builder at each stage of construction (eg. Footings done, Ground floor completed, upstairs floor completed, roof tiles completed etc.).
It took though 18 months to build (there were a couple of very bad winters imbetween), and we moved in when finished in 1987, and lived there until we Emigrated in 2004, and easily sold it for 5 times the amount we originally paid for it, which allowed us to buy 2 separate apartments in Tenerife and still have a surplus left over. I think it is now worth double what we sold it for in 2004.
With the exception of the roof tiles, everything else we chose ourselves, even down to the type and colour of brick, and the design could be whatever you liked providing it was in keeping with the area in general, and acceptable to the local Planning Authority.
Having said that, I do feel for those starting out on the mortgage ladder for the first time, as house prices seem to have gone through the roof recently. Even here in Tenerife property prices have doubled in the last 12 months.
