    Heater/Blower Relay

    Hi.

I've decided to tackle my non working heater and have narrowed it down to no power coming from the relay behind the shelf.
I've taken a photo of it and looks like a previous owner has swapped it out for a different type and taped up 2 of the connections for some reason, hence why it probably doesn't work...
Am I correct and if so does anybody have a part code and a steer to somewhere to buy a replacement relay please??

    Thanks as ever.

    Update.
Looks like I was mislead by the workshop and Rimmers drawings and I was looking at the wrong relay. Seems to be referred to as the "rear heated screen relay" which I presume it must share. When I short the ignition feed input (white) and the relay output (purple/brown) the fan works.
    Its a Lucas 6RA 33311D 12v2676.

I cant seem to locate an exact replacement so my question is what amp rating should I get to replace it? There are 20 amp versions available that look similar, would this do the trick?

    Thanks

      Hi,
I think you are looking at the Heater relay, it is called an Ignition Control relay because it activates when the ignition is turned on.
It should connect Brown to Brown/Purple when the Ignition is on, to provide +12v to the Heater switch.
White is relay activation and Black is Earth for the control, so you should not really be shorting White to Brown/Purple.
The relay should connect power via Brown to Brown/Purple to heater switch with +12v on White and earth on Black.

      Debugging.
Check that you have +12v on Brown, if not, then it is probably the power distribution connector located at the right hand side of the drivers footwell.
If you do have 12v on Brown, then check the earth is OK on Black.
(From your comments you do have +12v on White).
With 12v on White and earth on Black then you should have +12v on Brown/Purple, if not then the relay must have given up the ghost.
I think the Ignition Control relays are Lucas 6RA 20A, but check on the can before you order.

        Hi Neil,

I forgot to mention the safety aspect.
Brown is un-fused +12v supply straight from the battery, so pretty nasty, (the health and safety folks would not be happy these days).
So, disconnect the battery when replacing the relay.

White wire circuits are also unfused (they may come from the fusebox, but are connected to the "hot" side).
