    Carb Pedestal Insulating Blocks

    Hi All

My Stromberg carbs (at least one) sweat fuel where the carb is attached to the pedestal. I have the correct gaskets, but I am unsure if I should replace the insulating blocks. Do they perish?

    Thanks and Happy new year!

not seen any yet that are unserviceable. check they are flat on both sides, wet n dry paper on a flat surface should help. then gaskets (blue hylomar if you must.)

are you sure it is leaking at the joint and not dribbling down by gravity from the carb themselves

richardthestag Thanks. I replaced the float bowl gasket and float bowl plug O ring but there is still a leak so I moved on to the pedestal join. Very hard to tell if it is coming from there as you say, but oddly when I took the RH carb off the pedestal, there was no gasket, only the insulating block. I also don’t know if the gasket goes on the carb side of the insulating block or the pedestal side, as it is not mentioned in the ROM nor is the diagram clear on Rimmer’s site.

Is there somewhere else on the carbs themselves where it could leak from and dribble down? Choke assembly I have read does leak, but it’s another one that is hard to tell if it’s the source.

      Thanks

Update - I re-looked at the inlet manifold today and noticed that there is fuel pooled in the plug you can see in the attached. As it is there, which is above the insulating block, I assume this means more likely to be float bowl gasket or other leak location. I had already replaced the float bowl gasket and brass plug O ring, so am now rather flummoxed.

        Any ideas?

        Thanks
