I’m based in the northwest but do get around the country to collect as opposed to post?
    thanks

        Welcome to the Forum Graham

"where" is where it is now - in the SOC Forum general section. This is the right place to ask for help, although you may want to post a request in the "Wanted" section too, but it's fine here.

I'm in the process of fitting a refurbished diff, and spent the morning cleaning up the diff rear carrier. It has a thin plate spot welded to it's front edge. Does anyone know the funtion of this thin plate? I guess BL put it there for a reason, and looking on the googlenet, I see the new SOCTFL mounting plate has this plate spot welded in place. It seems the perfect place to trap water and rots itself away, I was about to launch my old rotten thin plate but am now cutting out a new one to replace it. Do I need to? Any thoughts on it's actual function?

                    Thanks in anticipation,

                    Steve

This is a diff spreader that I made but you can get by without it. You don't have to open the casing much to remove the ring gear assembly. I also adapted a small floor jack to install the completed diff which made the job easier and a one man job.
