    mk1 n 2 seats

can a mk1 seat base fit a mk2 seat back and visa versa?

    #2
I have a few seats but have tried this combination, but they look the same. I have run into one problem with the alignment of the pin and lock at the back to prevent the seat back from tilting forward.

Could be wrong, but I think that there is a difference in the number of ‘pleats’?

but with some leopard pattern fluffy seat covers from Halfords you would never know the difference

            Kind of continuing the thread.

What other seats fit well. I prefer the look of mk1 seats, but am curious as to what other seats fit and look good.

            Also comfortable is good.

Have a go on the search engine function Andy.

Well documented installations of a number of other types of seat.

I had rover 200 "tomcat" seats in mine but eventually went back to OE retrimmed because headroom is an issue for me

I’ve got early XJS, others (Stagdad) have put Fiat Coupe seats in and I’m sure there are others

I’ve seen MGF seats and I must admit Alfa GTV seats appeal.

Saab 900 seats would be comfortable, but I think they might be a little too big.

Fiat Coupe seats must be pretty rare now.

The XJS seats I’ve seen advertised are either too expensive, or in poor condition.

Rover 200 seats would have been nice. I like the BRM versions. However, the headroom warning is acknowledged.

I feel a measure up and scrappy visit is on the cards.

One thing to remember Andy, especially if you are going to use the back seat for kids or dwarfs is that many of the quoted alternatives do not tip to allow entry into the back seat. With regard to the headroom issue its not usually an issue, I met 'Richard the Stag' last week, I am 6' 1" and he towered above me! - Alan

                      Thanks Alan,

I’m also over 6 foot and as you point out the number of suitable alternatives is not that many when you consider they need to be:

                      Black leather
                      Tilt forward
                      No electrics
                      No fitted airbags
                      Comfortable
                      Good condition
                      Have a low seat base
Fit in the well between door and transmission tunnel
                      Adjusters need to accessible
And they need to look like they belong.

I suspect finding a suitable alternative was easier to do 20 years ago.

I don't think air bags in the seats would go off if they haven't been wired up

I agree, it’s because they will be bulkier and heavier than those without.
