fresh air vents

If I put my heater fan on cold air comes out of the fresh air grill even if the knob is in the off position
I'm sure I read that it is because of a foam gasket on a flap in the heater box.
Would it need a dash and interior strip down to sort this out or can you get at it in situ?

Hi Gary,

There are two screws in the gap at the top of the air vents they tighten a metal bracket which sandwiches the top of the vent onto the wooden surround. Loosen the two screws off and you should be able to manouvre the vent out and access the flap and foam behind.

Isn't there a flap with a foam seal type gasket inside the heater box though?

As far as I can remember there is a foam gasket that the air vent unit butts up to and the moving flap with a foam gasket is accessible below this.

Hi Gary, on further thoughts it might help with access to remove the radio too. I would suggest you remove the vents first and see if this gives you adequate access.
