Dear Sujit,
I don't believe that they are particularly desirable unless someone is trying to build a 'proper' first series production car. They were only fitted to the first 2,500 or so cars (and none for the USA). If you wanted to give me one (ho ho !) then I would gladly accept it and put it on the shelf until I get round to building an engine for one of my early cars (but I wouldn't hold your breath) but you aren't in the UK are you, so giving me one would be difficult (even bigger ho. ho.). There were two designs of these - flattened ends and round ends but I have no idea which should be fitted to which cars (there are pictures of press cars from 1970 with each fitment).
To answer S-type R - it only sucks in hot air from the rad area, similar to the later fitment, but doesn't have the 'elephants trunk' so doesn't suck in really hot air, and doesn't have the temp control valve in the base of the filter box to control this.
This probably doesn't help but don't throw it away if you have one as someone, somewhere will want one eventually.
