Rear Window for Soft top

When I bought the Stag just over 2 years ago it had covered a grand total of 900 miles in the last 10 years and for a good amount of that period it was stored with the Roof down, as a result the rear window had a line across it and over time this had hardened. I have just covered my 10,000th mile in the last couple of years but the "Line" has developed a crack, I was wondering if this could be fixed in situ, can I do it..or does the roof have to come off and be fixed professionally, any help much appreciated.
Incidentally the car still returns 24 mpg around town and 30 on a run (Auto + Superunleaded)

Hi Brian,
I repaired mine while the hood was on the car, very fiddly but worthwhile. I also dit an article on it for the Grampian Stags website. Have a look there and see what I did. There is also loads of other articles.

Just a thought, but a few of us fitted a solid (lexan) rear screen in our kit car soft tops, anybody fitted a bmw mini glass rear screen or similar?

Just a question but how big is the crack? I have one which is about 1.5cm long and part of me says "fix it in the summer by doing the whole window" but on the other hand is also small and not a big problem so my other choice is some liquid vinyl from Cabriodoc, which I've already bought.

I'll try this first as my car is usually only out for pleasure on days without rain, but of course I could get caught out but would this be an option for you too?

I've used Cabriodoc on a Herald rear screen with good results. It's not invisible but at ~£16 it's a good stop gap.

Thanks for that Ian, good to hear. As I said, mine is only a small crack at present and at the moment, whole window replacement feels like more work than I'd derive benefit from.

I was going to apply it yesterday but noted that it should be applied above 15 Deg C, I can wait, car is always garaged and only been out in the rain for the second time in about five years.

Brian, here are a couple of tips that I picked up from the forum:
1. always unzip the window when stowing it and let it hang down without creases (some fold it around a towel instead).
2. always unzip the window after relieving the tension at either front or rear and rezip before finally tensioning when putting it up. Replacing the zip is just as much trouble as replacing the window.
