    Exhaust Manifold Removal

    Hi Everyone

I'm going to be removing the exhaust manifold next week. I've been told this can be a bit of a difficult job. Are there any tips or trick that any of you can suggest?

    Thank you :-)

cheeky reply as faversham classics have just replaced mine with tubular manifolds, but the apparently get the engine as hot as possible to loosen things up.

If you loosen the engine mounts, one at a time, and jack up the engine this will give you better access.

I have had to do drivers side cast manifold a couple of times now and had no real issue with it either time. a selection of quality sockets of various lengths. a ratsh!t spanner and a modicum of patience and it can be done. passenger side I would anticipate would be easier because of the lack of steering shaft etc etc

only tips I can suggest are to not waste time with manifold - head gaskets. BUT do use exhaust seating paste when replacing them. oh and after cleaning the surfaces meticulously of old gasket and gloop

Not too sure that I would want to get the engine hot before trying to do this job!

Thank you very much for the tips - I'm very grateful. I think I'll go the WD40 route, as I dont have asbestos fingers! :-) :-)

It’s a couple of years since I had to do this but I seem to remember that getting the driver’s side back in was fiddly till I took the manifold/exhaust studs out.

Bit late, but you'd probably get better results with PlusGas - this is designed as a dismantling fluid. The WD in WD40 stands for water dispersant - it can help but I know which I'd choose.
