Hi ,Im looking to have a full bare metal respray on my stag. Could anyone recommend a body shop around the north staffs area 50 mile radius. Also rough any idea of cost
thanks, chris.
By full do you mean everything, as in engine compartment, boot, or just the outer panels and door shuts?
For an outer panel spray I would recommend E J Ward, it's just not nearby. Price would depend on what lies beneath the paint and how it was repaired previously. But a very good body at least £4k to £5k, then the skies the limit depending on finish required and problems discovered.
You will certainly need a handful of replacement rubber seals for handles, wipers, bumpers etc, might need a new windscreen etc.
The "problem" is that you won't know what is needed until the paint comes off then it's too late to have a "quick flashover" So bare-metal is a gamble, might easily cost over £10k if new work needed was discovered and would take many months.
...and if you have a really nice respray and an excellent finish to the car then suddenly the chromework and interior looks really tatty so you now need...……
Hours of fun to be had rubbing down, filling, rubbing down filling, rubbiing down, primering, rubbing down, primering rubbing down, colour coat x 4, wet sanding, cutting, polishing
Thank you Markvh, and Alan for your replys ,il look into them .. Alan my car is already stripped to bare metal.,pretty much all welding done just some door gap work to sort out.I have already painted inside the boot and interior, engine still in so engine bay not needed to be done
regards
Chris
Glad to hear there will be no unfortunate surprises for you, it seems you are ahead of the game and on course for a minimum cost respray. What colour will the car be?
Are you aware of the unusual methods to refit the windscreen?
Alan, The colour is White triumph "19".Not totally clued up on the windscreen replacement ,Ive hear there are two types of seals, any advice would be welcome .ta
Chris
Mine is been sprayed as I write.
Others on here might have been down that road but I am advised for mine that the screen is fitted into the rubber as normal, then the chrome finisher is fitted into the rubber, then the screen is fitted to the car.
Usually of course the finisher is fitted after the screen is fitted to the car. Apparently it is not easy / possible to fit the finisher afterwards. I have heard that many fitters don't touch Stag's, so a bit of more knowledgeable research first might be good.
White Stags do look timelessly good, mine is a Java Green - an obviously dated colour!
I would have taken to Wards but the timescales meant I may have not had the car for the spring, so switched to a Cardiff body shop. I did not find it easy to find a quality body shop who could spray the car in a timely manner, most seem to like the easy money with modern cars.

Alan I know what you mean about some body shops only wanting to do modern cars ,I contacted a few that wouldn't take it on.without even viewing the car...

Hi Chris
There is a place near to me that seems to have a good reputation, 'Splash of Paint'. They do lots of classics...............
