Door interior trim, extra parts

I am replacing the RHS door trim on my MK2. I have all the parts shown in Rimmers etc parts pictures but on taking off the old panel there appear to be two extra parts on the inside of the panel.
Firstly a beige plastic sheet that covers the entire inside and secondly a piece of black (Panel is black) vinyl trim along the bottom edge that is about 3 to 4 inched high and hangs out about half an inch below the bottom of the panel. Both are held to the cardboard mainly by staples
I will reused the old plastic sheet as it seal the door but can not work out what the lower vinyl strip is for or whether it should be there or not

Can anyone advise whether the lower strip is an original piece and whether it is available as a replacement part?

It is an original part, and I think it may have something to do with keeping any damp from inside the door cavity from getting at the bottom of the hardboard backing.. Can you transfer it to the new trim?

I just stripped out my car trim which is totally original and can confirm that the vinyl strip is an original item. It is different vinyl from the car upholstery but I haven't a clue why it is there. I have attached a photo of one door showing some other vinyl items.

my 73 parts car had the vinyl above the handle. it has a piece of Vee shaped rubber. I can only assume it directs water away from the mechanism or it may be to stop the panel being loose
