Tex door mirrors - can't see behind me !

My Stag has been fitted with a pair of "Tex" rectangular door mirrors on stalks.
Unfortunately I can see damn all behind me. The mirrors have been fitted to the doors aft of the quarter-light frame.
I had read that LD Spares could supply sets of black plastic "cups" which fit between the mirror head and the adjusting nut, giving a wider range of adjustment.
I've bought and fitted these, and.....still not enough adjustment to be able to see behind.
I reckon if the mirrors were about 5 to 8cms further forward I'd be able to see behind properly, but I don't want the problem of covering up the existing mounting holes.
Does anyone have any experience of fitting other manufacturers mirrors, i.e. VW, Merc, BMW, Ford etc. which would fit over the existing mounting holes and have sufficient adjustment to allow good rear vision?
For ease of mounting, they wouldn't need to be adjustable from inside, "manumatic" adjustment would be just fine.
    Many thanks,

    Neil.

Hi, Having tried all kinds of ways, the only thing that worked for me was to put a tap washer between the stem and heal. see photo.
Did this 3 years ago on both sides.

I found I had to doctor the curved washers with a file on the outer edge, this gave the mirror head a greater arc of travel.
And I have convex glass, flat must be impossible

I plan to change the glass to convex. I too acquired the washers from LD, and only able to achieve slight improvement.

I've been back through several threads on this trying to find an answer. I've fitted convex Tex rectangular mirrors with LD spacer washers and couldn't see any noticeable difference! In fact think the set up is slightly better without the washer!

Phil, I'd been interested how you 'doctored' the LD washers.

TJK, the tap washer looks an option I might try. Do you have remove the body of the mirror from the door to separate the stem?

99% of the time the roof is down so there is the opertunity for all round vision but I'm planning a european trip later this year and it would be nice to to see what's behind me when I'm on the wrong side of the road.

current set up includes additional stuck on 40mm diameter blind spot mirrors. Adds something but so small you have to look as apposed to glance.....

              HI Woolly,
No need for any dismantilling Just lift up the rear of the stem and place your rubber washer or simular. The tention of the spring keeps verything in place. On mine the view to rear was just right for both sides. and anly cost a few pennies.

A rearview camera is not a lot of money, just put one on my mo-ho and its good except when it rains!

Took out my rear viw mirror, never looked back since)

I bent mine. After filling the holes and repositioning still didn’t help. Basically dented inwards the back of the mirror. Not noticeable unless you are an anorak

                      hi woolly
I filed about a 1/3 off the outer diameter of the washer in one spot as this was blocking the mirror head from swinging further round, if you do this you need to get the washer positioned in the right spot, only took a couple of tries

you can just get the convex glass but I managed to break one befitting the hard plastic retainer, so bit the bullet and bought a complete head

This has been a problem from new!
I recall just 'bending' mine back in the 80's.
Since fitted the US spec 'AMC' mirrors, which have the movement but field of view isn't the best when compared to new cars.

Mine has a pair of clip on 'rally' mirrors that I have higher up on the windows - I find these give a far better field of vision than the tiny convex dealer-fitted ones on mine.

Thanks to all for their advice/suggestions. Much appreciated.
And, keep an eye out for the Stag reported missing from Feltham - quite distinctive. Fingers crossed the owner gets it back.
