    Wiper Motor Issues

My wipers have always been slow and are getting worse. Recently the self-parking feature has stopped working. I'm assuming I will need to replace the motor brushes and probably clean/grease the wiper gearbox. I've seen some useful articles in the magazine and in the technical section but they do not specifically cover the self-park issue. Any advice on this would be appreciated.

Also does anybody have a source for the brushes and maybe a part number or spec for them?

They don't do much of a job of clearing the screen anyway - I'm assuming I need to replace the rubbers but is there any adjustment on the wiper springs to get them to stay in touch with the glass?

Removing the rack cable to clean of all the old congealed grease, and re-greasing it can make a big difference.
You might also like try this trick. Once you have withdrawn the rack cable, turn each wiper box shaft through 180 degrees before replacing it. Provided it hasn't been done before, using the unworn half of the gears will remove a lot of the free play in the movement of the arms.
Some oil on the motor bearings may also help. If you can see that the brushes are worn, don't expect to just order a set ready to drop in! The motor I believe, was only used on the Stag and Reliant Scimitar, so parts are very hard to find, and Ebay kits will not fit in my experience. When I needed some, I searched for brushes of the correct design, shape, and voltage, and finally found them for sale "Loose" in America. Fitting them was a bit of a fiddle, but the motor was like new again afterwards.
I think you will find that they are now available from LDParts, number 514644BR
The self parking may be just a case of setting up the micro switch correctly, or maybe the fitting on the "Big end" of the rack that operates the switch may have snapped off.

I rebuild a Mk2 wiper system using a Mk1 wiper motor.. If you can get the special 5 wired plug that goes into the motor. U can test the motor independently. (especially for park) I have seen the plug with some short wires advertised. I think on a Mini website.

My park problem was found to be in the wiper stork on the steering wheel and resolved with cleaning and bending

My dash was out and I stripped everything and re-greased I was amazed at how fast the wheel boxes turned. My project didn't have a windscreen so not sure how much resistance would have reduced the speed.
Those wheel boxes seem to be sealed form the top so you really cant apply grease there. iI you take the wheel boxes off, be careful the nuts strip the aluminium. The boxes are expensive to replace.

I did find some docs on the web which people had put together. No specific for a Stag, but sine other cars used the same motor, it helped. I'll post shortly once I find them.

I worked on a LHD Stag so the motor cover is upside down so you have to undo the motor.
I found that the Roadster factory in US sell the rubber strap as a separate item. whereas other sell the rubber with a new metal strap.

It's a long time now since I last fixed mine, but have a feeling that the same motor is used on the TR6, and I got parts needed from a TR6 site, but not absolutely sure as it was quite some time ago. Worth checking though.

I had a similar problem on my Mk2 and having cleaned the rack cable and turned the spindles by 180 degrees if found that it was a lot smoother but no faster.

I investigated the parking switch unit and found that two of the wires were only attached by one strand, limiting the power to the motor. 5 minutes with a soldering iron fixed it.

Have a look at Drew's PDF on the wiper motor, pay special attention to item 9, don't ask me how I know but it cost me and I did it twice
