    Console lighting query

Just got my first Stag after previously owning a lovely TR4A. Fitted a Weber carb and in the process had to fit a new choke cable which was a nightmare but thanks to all all have contributed here for the tips and tricks which helped a lot. I found that by taking out the footwell lights in the centre console I could just about get my fingers in and poke the new cable in from the back, but was surprised that the innards of the console lights were missing. I sourced a couple of LED lights that fitted within the chrome surrounds of the original lights and wired them up OK, or so I thought.
The problem was that when switching on only one side came on and when switching off it went off OK but light on the other side came on !! I got round this by wiring each LED together so they both switch off and on at the same time but now when I close the door they come on and if I switch them off the overhead light on the T Bar comes on. Has anyone got any ideas on what's going on?

These circuit diagrams may help with debugging what sounds like a wiring fault...

Thanks for that, mines a Mk2, so I'll finish my coffee and get back and try and sort the wiring, but always worried that these old wires will snap and break........

Also note that some replacement console switches that were sold were not the correct type (2PCO) and require internal modifications to work correctly. Check the switch out first then wiring may have been bodged to try to get around the incorrect switch.

Would an incorrect switch explain why all the interior lights illuminate when the passenger door opens but not when the driver’s door opens (however, the door marker light does illuminate)? Many thanks in advance

From what I can remember the incorrect switches were single throw (2PNO) instead of changeover (2PCO) so I don't think this would entirely explain the problems, however it is possible that the wiring has been altered/bodged to try to make the incorrect switch work.

I would recommend removing and testing the switch thoroughly (an easy job) with a meter, or battery and bulb, before tackling the potential wiring faults (possibly a much more difficult job).

The Mk2 also has door switches with only one wire connection to each - check that the correct type is fitted and that the 'earth' at the door switches is sound.

Not to forget that those festoon LED's can be sensitive to the way around they are fitted +/-. I had to change the direction on both of mine to get them to work.

PS: is it only me who thinks that Festoon is a word that only belongs in a sentence from Spike Milligan?

Don't forget that Mk2 in this case refers to the post LD30001 cars, not the earlier post LD20001 Mk2 Stags, sometimes referred to as Mk1.5 which have the Mk1, two-wire door switches, but the double bulb interior light in the T-bar and not the single bulb interior lights in the B-post. Confused??
