    Carpet creep frustration

I have a nice set of carpets in the Stag and for maintenance reasons I have not glued them down. This gives me the problem of the carpets creeping forward (especially the drivers side) each time the car is used.
I notice on some cars such as the Rover P5 that carpet clips are used which presumably help to keep the carpets in place and I was wondering whether anyone has used anything similar to prevent their carpets creeping in their Stag?
I love deadlines - I like the whooshing sound they make as they pass by!

you can add clips or snaps you might have to drill a hole in the floor or I can use regular strength contact adhesive just to make it a little bit sticky or even stick on Velcro.

Tried those plastic clips without success. Ended up with the cheapest and best solution for me: using upholstery staples, I stapled the mats to the base carpet just out of sight under the front edge of the seats. Could use garn and a leather needle to do the same. Don't reckon on needing to remove the carpet that often, but the garn could be cut and restitched and the staples can be removed and new ones used.

Drew, how about tying the rear edge of the carpet to the seat runners with cable ties?

Could be possible, but the rails are quite a bit higher than the carpet floor so a "ramp" would probably result.

These are what I have successfully used, yes you have to drill the floor but not the end of the world.

Thanks for your replies guys, I don't think I like the idea of drilling holes so I'll carry on researching and if I come across something worthwhile I'll let you all know.

I have a similar problem and have been idly pondering so here's a thought - my number plates are held on with clear silicon sealer, and I was wondering about using the same on the carpets, after all it's not like permanent glue and can be peeled off if you wish to remove the carpets.

how about trying the rubber type mat used to stop home carpet rugs moving, one sheet glued to the back of the carpet and one to the floor?

I have some mats/carpets and I've prevented each of them from creeping forward with the use of a couple of "Side Release Plastic Buckles Clips For Webbing" and some nylon cable ties that are all available on eBay.

I have attached one part of each buckle clip to the mat with a nylon tie and the other part of each buckle to the metalwork under each seat with a few long cable ties (connecting two or three cable ties together to make long ones as required).

As the seats are not moved backwards or forwards, the mats remain in place but can be easily removed for cleaning.

The buckles are virtually hidden from view by the front edge of the seat squab and the nylon ties are not visible at all.

Can't imagine Mercedes or BMW using this method but it works for me

Hope that this is of some interest.

                        Best regards

                        Paul

I use a high temp spray glue like that offered by Martrim and spray a couple of dots which hold the carpet but also allow it to be lifted if necessary.

What sort of maintenance do you need to do under the carpet anyway?

If checking for surface rust, I use an epoxy primer such as like that from rust.co.uk. it can be brush painted if needed and then over painted with a rattle can. very tough and protects the metal well

Now I'm lost! I assumed we are talking about the carpet mats which slide forward under the pedals? Mine has no carpet on the floor - just underfelt. It's pretty difficult to glue carpet to underfelt! Sure, my underfelt is glued to the floor. My proposed fix was to anchor those "carpet mats".
