Hadn't had the car out in total darkness until recently, when I found out that dip beam would suddenly.....disappear! Annoying, and a bit scary!
Gently "rocking" the light switch could induce dip on/off. Not good.
Then I remembered seeing Drew's how-to on the light switch.
So, out with the switch and dis-assemble it.
Seemed excessively greasy inside, same as in Drew's pdf. One of the body contacts had a bit of a groove worn in the copper, but not a lot can be done about that.
Cleaned everything with brake cleaner and a soft rag. (Even managed NOT to drop any springs or ball bearings.)
Cleaned the 3 contacts on the ring & the contacts on the body with very fine wet/dry and a glass fibre "pencil".
Re-assembled, with just a very small amount of silicone grease (all I had) on the "teeth" of body.
Put back in the car this afternoon, tested and now ok, dip stays on properly with no unwanted movement in the switch.
Thank you to Drew, saved me £46 and kept me away from daytime TV for a while....!
