How to replace exhaust manifolds

Hi All,

Just took delivery if some SS tubular manifolds. However trying to get the underside bolts out of the existing MS manifolds is proving impossible. I cant even get a spanner on them.
Triumph FB group indicates the engine needs to be lifted slightly for this job.
Does anybody else have experience of this? Do you have any tips? What needs to be disconnected to allow this?
I would prefer to do the job myself but dont want to risk spending the summer under the bonnet instead of on the road. I have very little spare time - young family etc.

Any advice appreciated.

I considered this when I wanted to put exhaust gaskets on but decided that pulling the heads off would be quicker than trying to undo the lower bolts.

Other Stag owners have found ways to do it.

Welcome to the forum, firstly I would be very wary of advice from facebook fan club.
Mole is right it’s much easier with heads off. I used a C shaped spanner and 3/8” swivel head ratchet.
Fitting the right side one is a pain as steering shaft has to be removed. Note there are two shaft diameters, you need the smaller one, 15mm from memory.

drivers side standard cast manifold is trickiest because of steering shaft and pas etc.

I managed with a quality 3/8 socket set and some long sockets.

One bolt, cant recall which needed a spanner and took a while.

No need to jack engine nor remove heads. Both of which would have made the job easier but also significantly longer.
