    Fueling issue

We have been out in the stag the last couple of days enjoying this glorious weather. We can drive as far as we like no issue, runs fine, good power, life is great until we stop. Then we may be lucky and the fuel will fill the engine bay filter back up or it will stay bone dry for a while. So far it has not let us down, if we continue driving for 30 seconds or so, coughing a bit with no power it will clear and you can then drive for as long as you like no issues again, funny.
We have recently cleaned the pump, which I think is a moprod or something similar, we just took the top off and squirted some wd40 through it hopefully to clear any debris. We have a new filter between tank and pump, a filter from the breather and a new engine bay filter. We have no idea how old the pump is, the car has run perfect between stops for two whole days. Any ideas please.

Fuel pipe under the car may be near the exhaust pipe and when stopped after long trip may be vaporizing the fuel, casing an air lock which takes time to clear.
Happened to me when I used 8mm copper for fuel lines after a rebuild. \swapped for braided rubber alternative and resolved problem.

Hi John, thank you for your reply. We are definitely going to investigate the route of our pipe. Our fuel pipe from the pump to engine bay is black plastic so we may change this for a rubber alternative. An air lock or similar is the way I was thinking. Out again in it today but shall take a look before travelling anyway.

I don't think you have a problem. The filter doesn't completely fill with fuel when running; probably only a third at most, and it will drain back down to the tank after a while, once the engine has been switched off. Most Stags will run lumpy for a short while after a hot start, then smooth out. We're too used to the efficiency of modern car technology!

HI, I think it could be one of four problems or combination. 1, As already suggested fuel vaporizing and I think the most probable, 2, carbs floats set to high, 3, leakey needle valves, 4, pump putting out to much.pressure. The last three giving over rich fuelling till cleared when first started hot.

Firstly hi 022Dave and tjk thank you both for your replies. We have some ideas to work with now. The car does run good so it is hopefully something not too drastic. The mixture seems OK not too rich, the floats were both set at 17 to 18mm and the needle valves are both grose jets or whatever you call them with the ball bearing. It does seem to be a problem which has only reared it's head recently, much chin scratching will follow I'm sure.
