Stags got me head scratching again.....

car is running fine
tried to tune with colortune
colortune is not igniting fuel in cylinder
rigged it up with jump lead ect,and it is only sparking during cranking of the starter motor
same if I try with a spare spark plug to test with
as I said car seems to be running ok apart from slight backfire when decelerating after giving it some welly and slight wandering on idle
ant ideas?
could I have dodgy coil (unipart gcl111) or maybe the old newtronic ignition is up the duff?????

It sounds like the gap on the colourtune is too large for the coil to fire.

The fact it fires when cranking shows that the extra boost given by the bypass of the ballast resistor during cranking is producing more spark energy.

I would measure the voltage at the coil while the engine is running before condemning the coil, I had a dodgy in loom ballast resistor which dropped the coil voltage to about 5 volts at idle with the lights on and it would gradually splutter to a halt unless i turned up the idle speed, took me a couple of years to find it.
