    What ign. coil?

1973 Mk2 TV8. I thought the coil was a ballast resisted system but the live feed is 12v continuously. Existing coil leaks HT alarmingly so needs binning & reads 2.5 - 2.7 ohms warm.

    Suggestions please on a replacement.

    TIA Geoff

The resistance you quote points to a 12V unballasted coil. You don't say under what conditions you measured the 12V at the coil. If the points are open, or if you have electronic ignition module that doesn't "fire" without the engine running, then no current will flow through the coil and 12V will be present on both a ballasted and an unballasted system. To be absolutely sure there is no ballast in circuit you need to temporarily connect the other side of the coil to earth and then measure the voltage, do not leave the earth wire connected for any longer than necessary otherwise the coil will overheat and be damaged (doesn't really apply in your case I know), If it still reads 12V (battery voltage) then it is unballasted, if it drops to around 6V then you have a ballast resistor in circuit and need a ballasted coil.

Thanks everyone, I did Rogers test & sure enough I have a ballasted system. The coil that everyone is suggesting is a 12v one - I take it you guys are running non ballasted systems?

No, the Bosch coil suggested is for a ballast system and is the one you need...........

Well I doubt it’s for a 7 cylinder car if it says up to 8 I think you can assume it includes 8 especialyas others here have recommended it

Geoff, The Bosch coil, part number: 0221119030 is the one you need. You do not have to buy it from Burton, the coil will be available from lots of other outlets for less £.
