    Wilwood or Hispec calipers

I'm fitting vented disc and I'm wonder what size Wilwwod calipers other members used?

The standard Stag caliper is a piston of dia 57mm so I calculated that at 2552 mm2 (3.96). Ideally I think I need a caliper of 4.12 (ie 2 x piston dia 1.62 or 41.1mm) as this gives a total area of 2654mm2 which is only a fraction above the standard area of the original system. So the peddle travel should be about the same.

I need calipers with dust deals/boots, but Wilwood only do a 4.78 ie 3105 mm2 ( 2 x dia 1.75 or 44.45mm) with dust seals, which I feel would result in the brake peddle travel being a lot more.

What's been the experience of other members the have used a larger Wilwood caliper?

Another alternative, albeit more expensive are Hispec Calipers, they do a Billet 4 and have a Austin Princess equivalent, ie with lugs. The piston size of 41.2 so for 2 pistons (1 side) gives a piston area 2657mm2 which is very close to the Stag.

Have any members used Hispec calipers?

I had hispec on my dad rush kit car, cant fault them, very helpful and (Jeff I think it was) was ready to help about 5 or 6 of us who had them. mine (all 4 wheels) were gold adonised but friends had black or red. only local to me so a quick run through the tunnel and I was there.

Phil, do you know what caliper model/part you have fitted? I'd be interested to know the piston diameter. How's your peddle travel?

pedal travel is no different, so think the piston area is very similar discs are grooved and cross drilled and no noticable noise from them, have noticed a bit of dust on the wheels so will look into green stuff pads when the time comes.

I've had Hispec monster 6 pot calipers on my Interceptor for close to 10 years. Excellent.

Personally I have always gone for Wilwood. Hi-spec are very helpfully and seem to offer calipers at a decent price. but i have heard my many people complaining about poor manufacturing and design ( a lot of flex ).

My disc are 343mm Alcon grooved and vented and large Wilwood 4 pot calipers with custom made mounts. As my caliper are radial mount rather than lug. I have also got rid of the servo and have gone with a peddle box.

they manufacture 4 6 and I think 8 pot calipers and discs/bells to suit anything.
last time I was there they were making a pair of 19 inch dia discs for a show corsa with 22 inch wheels. look up hispec or monster brakes

Wilwood seem to be pretty popular. But I'd be interested to know what size piston area people have used. In Wilwood inches spec, 4.12 or 4.78 ? 4.12 seems to be the closest to the original Stag. But 4.78 also seems to be used, but I would have thought that would give a longer peddle travel as its a larger piston area.

I'm wanting to stay with original brake servo and master cylinder, so I'd be interested in peoples feedback on this regarding the caliper size. Have people got their Wilwood caliper part number I can look it up with Wilwood to see the piston size.

                      Cant re-call the part number.

Thanks Bullstarz, They look like Billet Narrow Superlite's. Wilwood only list them as piston area of 2.46 or 4.8, but as you got rid of the servo I'm not sure of how that would work with different piston area and maybe you went smaller! Don't suppose you have a pic of the end of the box? as that has the part number on it and would confirm.
