    Remove rear road spring

    Hi all
just a bit of advice needed, I am going to remove the rear road spring, the Stag Repair Manual says just remove road wheel, support car on stands, and compress upwards the arm using the jack and remove the road spring after slowly lowering the arm, does the drive shaft need to be removed from the diff and then lower the arm? I did think to use my spring compressors, hook on type, but there's not much room to get a good compression on the spring-- how have other people done their spring?
    thanks

IIRC I had to disconnect shock absorber and driveshaft at the diff end to get sufficient clearance to remove the springs. Nothing wrong with the springs, just fitting new Poly spring seats. Easy enough to do - 30 - 45 mins per side?

When you take them off check the upper spring seat, mine had badly corroded and rotted out the chassis rail.

I recall on mine after removing wheel and disconnecting the shock. I couldn't get the spring out. I had to disconnect the half shaft so the arm could be lowered more.

spring came out easily after removing bolts from the half-shaft to diff, I compared the new std spring from Rimmers, and it was the same height as the original, but Rimmers had 2 extra coils (12 coils) original had 10 coils, is this what makes the reported increased height of about 1" I have read about?

All I did was disconnect the damper then wait until the arm dropped enough to remove the spring, it would not come out at first.
I only do what the voices in my wife’s head tell me to do!

It depends on the length of the spring, sometimes you may have to disconnect the drive shafts to get the spring out
