    diff extension

    Hi All

    I'm going to change the bearing in the nose extension,what I would like to know is do I have to remove the diff completely or can the job be done in situ?

    I believe you will have to remove the extension and diff from the car and then split the two apart. If you are changing the bearing I suggest you also change the oil seal which fits directly behind it in the nose of the diff itself.

      Thanx for your reply.I had the diff rebuilt last year so the seal should be ok,but they were suppose to replace the bearing:?so you never know!

        I did this job not too long ago, and yep it's a diff out job. You might as well replace the seal while you're there as they are cheap enough and don't forget new nyloc nuts on the prop and driveshaft bolts.

          Hi Cliff,
          When I replaced my diff with 3.45:1 jobbie, I was advised to strengthen the nose entension with 4 metal strips between the flanges at the front, as it is a potential weak spot. Shame not to while it is off, but make sure the bearing is removed if you do, as the welder will melt the grease out of it, if not
