Hi John, your kickdown cable is too short. At the top, there should be a tiny ring clamped onto the inner cable, that should sit JUST above the outer cable, if it's well clear then adjust the outer cable till it's right. Cheers, Martin.

In that case, try lengthening it a quarter inch at a time, i.e. release the locknut and turn the outer so that it comes further out of its bracket, then road test, strictly speaking you sould climb into the transmission to set it up, but that's a lot of trouble. Martin.

          John.

Sounds like your cable is too tight. Can it be loosened?
I have the ZF and the adjustment is OK.

John, have you tried adjusting the outer cable? If the box holds on to the gears too long this can normally be improved by screwing the outer cable adjuster inwards (clockwise). This should get upchanges occuring at a lower road speed. The adjustment procedure is that same as with the Strombergs.

The adjusternut is turned fully clockwise if I turn it anti clock itwill notchange out of first but it was ok before the carb was fitted that would suggests that the bracket on the conversion is drilled wrong but if I am the only one with this problem it cant be

I have the Weber carb kit too and a BW65 box, I've managed to adjust gear changesto my liking, which is 1-2 @15mph and 2-3 @30mph ( light throttle ), kickdown also works a treat too.

I can post a picture tomorrow of the cable adjustment and bracket if that helps.

Dan could you send a pic of your set up as I've just had my BW65 completely overhauled + torque converter. It seems to be working 90% better but I,m sure I could do some more adjustments. The guy in the auto specialist thought that somone had maybe tampered with the linkage

make sure the outer cable is seated properly at the transmission end. if it's come out of the sleeve and jammed it'll appear too short at the carb
