    Staked Driveshafts

Hi all, I have been going through my spare parts just organising, cleaning and such. I have found a driveshaft which ideally I would like the universal joint changing just for piece of mind.
My question is what are my choices of what to do with it, I have seen uj's with internal circlips but how do I change this one? I shall just scrap it if I need to but would rather save it if possible.

you used to be able to get a kit that included a tool to cut the old crimps out and then to restake it after fitting the new one, take care to get it aligned correctly if the kits are still available

IIRC there were workshops that machined the old stakes away and cut a groove for the circlip. I don’t know of anywhere that might do it now, but I have a pair of staked shafts that need u/js so I might have a look around,

Speak to Faversham or EJ Ward; I'm sure they will know of an engineering company that could do it.

I went through this last year. It is not worth messing about with staked drive shafts as they will almost certainly be destroyed in the process of trying to change the UJs. Best bet is to part exchange the shaft complete for a re-conditioned one. Robsport Interrnational did me a good deal. John

That’s good to know because I found a couple of suppliers that would not take staked shafts in exchange.
