Hi Adrian, I'm waiting for my bonnet catch and wiper motor cover to come back from Ray, I think your right, I'll have this one chromed before it rusts. It is a rip off though, I had thought better of Ratsport and they will be informed in no uncertain terms. Another supplier of shoddy goods to classic owners ! Martin.
Thanks guys for all your answers.
At the end of the day it will most likely be fine and will keep its shine. Its not really in a position subjected to contaminants that would cause discolouration.
Now I would be interested to know the grade of stainless steel used for the new stainless steel bumpers that are available however. I would not wish to be polishing them all the time to keep them bright and shiney.

anyone know what the best type of polish for these stainless bumpersis as we have them one our Mini Cooper? Is Autosol the right sort of thing or just Wax polish? I cannot imagine they are the best quality ever as I do not think they were that expensive! (Fitted by the previous owner - so I do not know for sure)

I've used this guy now acouple oftimes and his work is good. Sounds a very decent guy and has a pair of rocker covers of mine getting chromed now - I feel like a little kid waiting in anticipation for their arrival.

Spot on mate, it's like having your nose pressed up against the toyshop window - love it ! Martin.
Pink Windolene is good for chrome bumpers (non abrasive), but not sure about s/steel.
The beauty of stainless steel of course is that it is the metal that is polished unlike chrome plating. To achieve the polish on stainless steel, different grades of abrasive are used from course to fine to achieve that final polish. So a fine abrasive polish like autosol is perfectly fine to use on stainless steel, unlike on chrome if you use too much you can wear away the thin chrome plating.
