    Sports Exhaust Manifold

I heard a colleagues stag which has a super roar when accelerating, much better than mine.
Was curious what I can do to improve the Stag Roar on my car.

For info, I have a 1973 Stag Automatic. it is fitted with a Stainless Steel exhaust system with the
    standard exhaust manifold fitted.

My first question is would I hear a significant difference in sound if I just replaced the exhaust
    manifold with a sports manifold?

I have seem a Phoniox manifold available. Is this the main model or are there alternatives that I
    should consider?

Look forward to any comments and suggestions on this point

    Kind regards

    Steve

Tony Harts straight through silencers will give a better sound. Manifold changes are not worth the pain unless you have proper EFI, imho

Fitted stainless manifolds to my car from R B, much faster, best mod for power I've done. Slightly better sound to.

Tubular manifolds (Phoenix) Tony’s straight through boxes, stainless rest of system & large bore exhaust tailpipes - best sound available on an otherwise standard Stag I think and have to disagree with John, the tubulars are worth it but only if you have the straight through boxes too...

              Cheers

Travelling at the moment with limited access to Internet hence the late response

Thanks for the suggestions. Looks like the Tony's Straight Through boxes may give me what I want.
Will try this before the sports manifold as this seems less effort.

How much cutting to the existing exhaust is required to fit the straight through boxes?
Any tips I need to know?

Thanks to all for the responses. Really like the sound on the video above, cool

No cutting needed, they are a straight swap. An incidental advantage is that they have heat shields on top which the SS ones I had didn’t, certainly less heat inside car now.

                    John

does the heat shields make much off a difference ? to the temp inside the car

                    thanks Dave

the video of my car, standard manifolds, stainless system through to large bore tailpipes.

I think mine might be too noisy with straight through silencers, I do a lot of motorways and quite like the gentle harmonic burble when cruising.

                        Mine did sound like this:

Wasn't a TV8 but a RV8 back then. I did have a large bore manifolds 1 5/8" i think. into a 2" collector an "X Pipe" then straight through to some Moto guzzi end cans. Without the end cans it was like someone with a shoot gun sitting in the back seat every time you backed off the throttle.

                        Now it sound like this;

Well it did 18 months ago, but as i wasn't able to drive ( medically , not banned , well revoked) i decided to take it apart again. No real reason but seemed like a good idea as i could use it. Yes my head wasnt all there.

Its still in bits but i can drive now and the reason its still in bits is:

New Toy and its red and we all know red the fastest colour, its all about chemistry, physics and some old bloke called Newton. All for the price of an stag engine rebuild, well possibly less. A lot less than my Stags gearbox or Air suspension.

I'm obviously getting more frugal with my money and a lot wiser and sensible with age.

It a ZX12r 2001, 18 years old and 1199cc. Completely standard but its getting a new exhaust as no one can here the bike so they don't know I'm there. Their too busy , on their phones, texting, putting make on, eating or daydreaming to look in there mirrors. At least then they'll hear me and get out of the way.
