    Mk 2 Revcounter wiring

Russ Or VMad,this is a nice easy one for one of you or anyone

Since fitting an uprated coil my tacho has a mind of its own,so on advice on a previous thread, decided to fit mk2 internals to my Mk1 bin and dial.

Question is on the Mk1 wiring there is two white and slate wires ,one ending in a female and one ending in a male connector.

on the rear MK2 binnicle there is just one male connector (a green for the volt reg and a black for the earth, these I have just swapped over assuming ok).

Now by connecting the White and slate female to the male connector on the Mk 2 instrument it doesnt work an whats more I get no spark at ignition.

Can some please guide me on the correct wiring config when swapping rev counters.

    Thanks in advance.

I havent done this conversion before, but the white/slate wires carry the switched battery supply to the coil +so they just need to be connected together. The Mk2 rev counter needs three wires: 12v supply (eg green), earth (black), anda new 'signal' wire from the points or coil negative.

If the engine will not start the two w/s wires probably have not connected properly.

I would have expected there should be one earth and two other connections on the back? Can you post a picture?

Yep,there is the Earth,a spade connection for the green wire that goes to the voltage reg and then one other wich is a male bullet type connection.Just 3 terminals in total.

male spade on rev counter to ignition live positive
male bullet on rev counter to coil negative
            eart to case negative

make sur you have joined the original male and female bullets togeter that were on old rev counter
they are you feed to po side of coil

Alan thank you, just to clarify,"male spade on rev counter to ignition live positive
"is this the green wire that goes to the voltage regulator on back of speedo?

I can follow the rest,it is much appreciated. Can you tell me why there are two diagrams,is there 2 versions of the RVC tacho.?

only one version for the stag
ignore other diagram its for another type
yes the green wire, same one as your earlier rvi type rev counter
the green wire should come from the double connector on volt stabilizer,(feed)
rev counter should not be connected to regulated side of volt stab

                    Alan,

Credit to Don Kennedy for wiring diagram, which I have, thank you .

Lastly, then I assume the diag on the left is for the Stag, and after joing male and female white an slate bullets(mk1 wiring)together as per your suggestion, would you suggest running a new wire from male bullet on back of Tacho to neg side of coil.

                    Many Thanks,I have learned alot,

                    Regards Mark
