After 'upgrading' my instrument lights to LED which included the warning lamp cluster I discovered that my alternator stopped charging. It seems that the IGN light circuit forms part of the alternator exciter circuit and relies on there being an incandescent bulb forming this circuit, if replaced with an LED the circuit stops working, have you by any chance upgraded your bulbs to LED?I love deadlines - I like the whooshing sound they make as they pass by!

Been having trouble with my alternator charging circuit for some time, resulting in having 2 alternators in a short period of time with flickering ignition light and voltmeter intermittently not showing a charge, most noticeable when the engine was warm. Changing the last one, I noticed that the exciter wire appeared to be not making continual contact with the connector on the alternator due to the plastic cover having deteriorated. A new set of wires has cured the problem
