Foil and Coke Trick

On page 19 of the latest Stagmag the author of an article entitled 'The Race to London to Brighton' referred to the 'Foil and Coke' trick to try and rescue some of the chrome work on his Stag. Can anyone explain what the trick involves?

I have it on reliable authority that any detrimental effect on the stomach lining due to Coke is negated by mixing it with a healthy measure of Jack Daniels

It's been a well known trick for years to soak copper coins in Coke and see how shiny they come up. I always find that it sets my teeth on edge and probably rots your fillings.

further to that, coke is used at road accidents to clean blood away, at the coke factory they use it to clean the delivery truck engines amongst other uses

Is that not a waste of a good measure of Jack Daniels?

You don't even need coke, water will do it. An oxide produced on the surface of the foil plus the water makes a very fine abrasive paste and that is what does the trick. YouTube shows the process.

Useful tip to know about, thanks. I'll try it with water and coke and see which works best, then drink the other one!
