    Overall STAG dimensions please

Hi, I'm going to buy a Stag - could someone please take some measurements from a actual car for me - I need the overall width between the tips of the two door mounted mirrors (to check the car will fit in my garage), and also, with the bonnet raised, the floor to highest point of the raised bonnet.

As a secondary, has anyone bought one of the Club car covers to cover their car in the garage and what are your opinions of it?

This is my first post - I was a long time (20 years plus) MG owner but am upgrading to a Stag now my grand daughters need a little more space (well, that's my excuse for having to buy one...…!)
    Many thanks,
    Tim

There's a lot of info on here. Scroll down for dimensions. The height of the open bonnet will of course depend on which tyres you have. I can just open my bonnet underneath the garage door when it's up in the roof above the car.

I've just been out to my garage to check. The door raises up above the car and has a clearance of 6ft 1in which is just enough to allow the bonnet to be opened. Width of door is 7ft which is more than enough to get car in and be able to get in and out of drivers door easily. hope this helps.

Yes it's me again! Just remembered I'd got a picture of the car in the garage. As you can see there's not really much room to work on it but no problem with storage as it fits in nicely and you can just about get right round the vehicle (if you're slim and agile)

Thanks Richard, much appreciated. When you have another minute, could you put a measure across the tips of your door mirrors so I can get an exact width to check? Nice car - can't wait to acquire one of my own!

              Hi Tim
Just been out with my tape measure. Not the easiest thing to measure but as far as I could check it's 5 ft 7 ins across the width of the mirrors, although of course different mirrors would give different results. The clearances between the mirrors and the garage wall are 18ins on drivers side and 10ins on passenger side. If you notice on my photo I've fasten pieces of carpet on the sidewalls to protect the door edges.

Good luck with your search. I bought mine 2 years ago on this site...…

The good thing being that at least you can tell where the vehicle is located and how far you'll need to travel. I was lucky I found mine less than 40 miles from home. Buy the best you can afford and remember rust is more expensive to repair than mechanical stuff. My Stag had a 9 year total restoration by the previous owner so I'm benefitting from his expenditure.

              good luck

I can't help you with an opinion on the club cover but this one is my indoor cover, fleece lined. https://photos.app.goo.gl/2g1Dy51ZuC2jgBGM7

My car was the template vehicle for this company.

I'm pleased with it, very soft and choice of colour scheme.

                  PM me if you're interested.
                  David.

I bought an indoor cover, but the only thing with fitting an indoor car cover you need to clean the car before you fit it or the inside of the cover becomes contaminated with dirt/grit etc, so no longer use it, just my thoughts, but each to their own.

I agree entirely about the car being clean and I only put mine on if it is clean. Some covers have quite a stiff inner side which claim to be "soft" but I had a cover like that on a car outside and the wind buffeting did rub it badly.

My fleece lined cover can easily be unfurled over the car with minimal dragging.

Wasn't there an article in the SOC magazine a couple of years ago about someone who'd used one of the outdoor covers and due to the winter weather and storms the paintwork was knackered almost to the point of requiring a partial respray? I have a soft cover for mine which came with the car and it does help to keep dust off when it's laid up over the winter. It's amazing how much rubbish gets blown under the door when the winds in the right direction. Sometimes in spring I could fill a carrier bag with all the dandelion clocks I find in the garage.

Must check, but I'm pretty sure the widest part of my Stag is the rear bumper corners!
                          The answer isn't 42, it's 1/137

Just checked mine. 63" across the outside of the rear bumpers. 66.25" outside mirrors.

The 66.25 is almost the same as the figure I gave (approx. 5ft 7ins), which as I said will depend upon what sort of mirrors you have fitted. Garage door is 7ft wide so access shouldn't be an issue.
