Hi Richard has the release jammed up as when you tightened the cable it may have pulled the release catch into a stiff / tight bit.

Hi Richard, If you haven't already got one, seriously consider installing a second bonnet pull. There are horror stories of a locked down bonnet and a broken release cable.

I had this problem and the cause was the cable on the engine end had jumped out of the ferrule and the catch was held partly open and the bonnet didn't close.

If you have to adjust the pin the only spanner I could find for undoing the lock-nut was an old bicycle one which was thin enough to go through the coils of the spring and one of the sizes fitted the nut exactly.

ll that work was totally unnecessary as it was latch that was the problem .

                    Hi Simon
a few of the west yorks stag owners have fitted theses bought a bonnet release cable off the bay for £5/6 . most of the stags have mounting holes already on the opposite side to the bonnet pull already on the car. you can buy or make cable holder and thread the cable through the bulk head, mine goes near the servo then across to the bonnet latch.the hardest bit is drilling the lever i use one of the multi bits, as even a brand new dormer wouldn't touch it?.i then put a bolt with a small hole for the inner cable in the original hole and a solder less nipple or similar.

ps if you use the new cable instead of the original as i do in the garage as it is easier for me on drivers side , as someone said previously ,the original outer cable comes out of the ferule and doesn't allow the bonnet to lock properly.

If you have difficulty drilling the lever, a nick with a dremel or angle grinder should help get to the softer metal

Richard, I used an assembly from a 2,5 saloon. Mine was secondhand but you could buy new from one of the suppliers If you wish. I did mine some years ago. It is fitted to the r/hand side as a r/hand drive Stag should be. I do remember having trouble drilling the arm under the bonnet as it is very hard, I used a carbide tip drill. Maybe others with more recent memory could offer advice.

Sounds like the catch is sticking, make sure it's oiled/greased then adjust the cable
