    Kienzle clock repair pdf

I was just looking through one of my old laptops and I found this clock repair pdf
I have no idea if it works or where I got it from but I have put it up on my google drive for download
my clock doesn't work so I will try fixing it with the info given in the pdf, wont be for a long time though as way too busy at the moment (6 kids and a hernia to support lol)

I recently did mine and most of the PDF is exactly as I did.

I would add a couple of points I found in completing mine which may be of help or consideration

Low melt solder is difficult to come by or expensive. Ok have tested and used modelling solder which whilst melt point is more like 80 degrees works well and keep the use of the fuse intact. Getting the solder to melt without completely dripping off is the challenge. On mine I managed to get a wire format and put a small piece through the 2 parts of the fuse and then place a cold (battery operated) iron on the solder switched on and moved off as soon as signs of melt were noticed. (it took me 3 goes but did get there in the end).

In terms of WD40 there are a number of articles online that say not to use this as it leaves a residue which will collect dirt and dust and revert back to the fuse blowing (I don't know now if this is correct but I followed the advice of light air blow clean and lubricant sparing the main spindles only with sewing machine oil on a pin or cocktail stick, again this has worked for me)

Lastly the test can be completed by crocodile clipping to a standard 9v square household battery.

Getting it to keep time accurately is a whole other issue but it does now work and you definitely feel a sense of achievement especially as some online sites say that they cannot be repaired😀.

Hope of some help and good luck

        Simon,

If you are trying to adjust the clock for accuracy it might help to use a mobile phone and one of the free "clock tuner" apps which use the mic to record the mechanical beat of the clock and advise you of the gain /loss of time so you can adjust more easily.

Whether the Kienzle can ever maintain accuracy is perhaps a different insoluble question.

Mine was correct twice a day.
Until I replaced it with a Rover clock …

May be worth putting in the technical section?
