    Wards water pump bung

    Hi Guys ,

Proberbly a dumb question but is the steel bolt intended to stay in and be adjusted to the under side of the cover,or is it only for removing the bung and not to be left in the system?

    Cheers Steve

I hope that it's meant to be left in.

I've seen one, I would imagine the tapped hole is just to assist fitment/removal.

Can't see why you would want to leave a boltin or adjust the top cover to it. You only adjust the top cover to ensure a close fit to the pump vanes.

If left in though can't do any harm I would imagine.

I left mine in the bung thatI made myself because if I ever want to get it out the threaded hole would be filled with gunge and would have to be cleaned out before you could get the bolt in to remove it.

The question of whether the bolt should be 'adjusted' comes down to whether you trust its going to stay located. It should be a tight fit with the rubber rings and stay put however adjusting it to be a close fit cannot do any harm.

I used a stainless bolt because, although it should be a problem corroding, I had one anyway.

              Thanks lads ,

I can get on with my new inlet manifold which i got from Martin Dimmock today now.£35 for what looks like a new manifold some of the 5/16 uncholes weren't even threaded, more playing with my new helicoil set.Top guy.

My old manifold was scimmed 2 years agobecause it was visibly bent between mating surfacesand now looks like this.So i've come to the conclusion it's substandard metal.

                Hi Steve,

Why do you want the holes in your inlet manifold threaded? Normally one passes the unthreaded portion of the securing bolt through an unthreaded hole. If the holes were threaded it would be difficult to get a good seal between the two parts to be joined.. Tightening would simply strip one thread.

                  Hi Peter

                  Yes that proberbly sounded strange

It was the coilmounts that were blank, I also helicoiled the thermostat coverfixings while i was at it .

                  Cheers Steve

Here is the reply from ejward
                    Hello,
We leave the bolt in the thread to prevent them from getting dirty. The one that we supply with the bung will need to be shortened so that it doesn't fowl the water pump cover, but allows you to lift out the bung should you want to.

Please do not hesitate to contact us should you require any further information.

                    Regards,
                    Trina Ward

Just to add, I've left mine in. adjusted to just clear the cover, just to make sure no chance it could get blown out of the block.

BTW - from my experience, suggest you check the fit of the bung carefully asWards ended up with a bad batch (but hopefully sorted it for me on the 4th bung):

                      1) Intereference fit in block without o rings

                      2) Fitting sliced O rings in half, o ring recess too shallow

                      3) Fouled jackshaft gear teeth - only found out after all assembled and fitting jackshaft. Probably the worst scenario as you may not know if you just push the bung in with shaft in place. Have a look at the shape of the cage and bung and you'll see why the cage is chamfered so much.

                      ) Awaiting fitting.....

                      Paul
