Removing Door Cards

Hi All,

Can someone kindly give me a step by step guide to safely remove the door cards without damaging the clips and cards.
I presume there is a right way of getting these off the doors and I generally get it wrong.
Don't want to cause myself more headaches with damage

I remove quarter light knob centre then unbolt the knob, then arm rest screws, then ease the door clips out along bottom, front and rear edges. Door card bottom edge can be swung outwards and the door card lifted upwards off the clips it hooks onto along the window. There are wires to the courtesy light to be separated before the card can be lifted away from the car.

I find it helps to have the car up in the air to allow you to see upwards along the lower edge to the clips. Beware the red lens on the courtesy light is very fragile when removing (fit LED bulbs whilst it is off). If the cards are old the hardboard backing will be very frail and needs a gentle pair of hands do not pull at it. There are door card removal tools on Ebay for a couple of pounds which might make it easier, just a bent strip of metal really. Save all the old clips carefully they seem better than the modern replacements.

It is a 10 / 15 minute job, needs no skills just care and patience.

Before replacing the card it is worth spraying the internal lower door seams with cavity wax to help keep water from the seam folds (check the drain holes afterwards to ensure they are clear - quick poke with a straw or cocktail stick from outside under the door.) Perhaps a quick lubricate of any mechanism for the locks and windows. You will need to replace the plastic sheeting (known as door curtain or membrane) which is just glued with contact adhesive to the panel before refitting the card.
