hi all , I’ve had an annoying oil leak for several years now which I think has to be addressed this year , the oil escapes from between the gearbox bell housing and the engine, I’m strongly suspecting it’s the rear crankshaft oil seal , can’t see oil escaping from rear of cam covers , I have BW65 gearbox, obviously the gear box and flywheel have to be removed, does the sump have to be dropped also , I’m assuming this job can be done with engine in situ , any tips and advice welcomed on this operation. Thx Graham

If the gearbox is out, then it is easy to remove the sump without dropping the crossmember, so you may as well change the sump gasket at the same time. Make sure you get one of the decent, thicker, gaskets and not one of the paper thin ones.Dave
