    Removing Centre Dashboard Vent

    Hi all,

has anyone got a neat method of removing / refitting the two lower screws (see pic) of the dashboard vent without dismantling the entire interior below the dash?

I'm making a Garmin Nav holder in a spare vent I have and need to swap the original for the modded one.

    Cheers

    Drew

I fitted a sat nav there and cannot remember having any problems with the lower screws. I think once you have the top screws loosened the whole unit can be removed by careful manipulation.

My unit has a gap above and below it so I still get a flow of cool air from the centre.

A word of advice, experiment with the angle of the sat nav as I get s lot of glare and it is hard to see on s bright day. I should have angled it further down to avoid this. I may look at fitting some kind of visor over the unit in the future.

Ahhh - that's a thought Dave; perhaps that bottom strip is only a clamp. A friend with a TR6 told me about the viewing angle but, as it turned out, the Garmin naturally sat at a slightly downward looking angle with my first mount mock-up so I'll hope that it does the trick. As yourself, I might have to make a sunshade for it though. I'll post some piucs once I've got past the "proof of Concept" phase.

      Thanks

On thing to check, for the slower learners like me, is that you can still see the Garmin when driving with your Polaroid sunglasses on. The screen on mine is completely invisible because the polarised screen is the wrong way for the polarised lenses…

Know the problem. My TomTom becomes hard to read, though not quite invisible with polaroids.
White 1976 build ("Mk2") only a few mods

Drew - I quiite like my Sat Nav where it is - which is a spare smart phone with a magnet on the back attached to the windsreen on the right side where I can easily view it. Originally I used the Tom Tom Go App on it, but now simply use Google Maps with a Map of Tenerife on it.

Alternatively when using the Wife's Honda to visit new places, I simply attach the same phone to a magnet protruding out of the right hand fresh air vent on the Honda (both cars are RHD models). The Google Maps App doesn't cost anything, and works perfectly well for me as it has no problem following Tenerife roads, or those on any of the other Canary Islands.

In the photo below the reflection on the phone is from the flash on the camera that I used to take the photo. normally there is no reflection despite the strong Sun that is usually shining here. Positioned on the right hand side where it is means you don't have to take your eyes off the road to follow it.

The 2nd picture shows my Mobius Dashcam, and rear Parking Sensors display on the centre of the dashboard.
