Anyone see this Stag for sale:

I was wondering if anyone has ever viewed this Stag for sale:

I spoke to the garage and they said someone from the club had been to see it.

It looks a really nice one from what I can tell.

Wow! A massive 35cc under the bonnet!!:shock: Would that be one of those V8 glowplugs - maybe handfettled by Howard Vasey himself??

Actually, I think the beastie was advertised there last winter - I am sure I came across a dark blue Stag when I was looking for my Precious. Perhaps it is the owner's way of winterising it - put in the local showroom with a "hope" price tag.

I've seen it advertised for a while and it's now been reduced to 8k. Do you think it's woth a look at that price?

Any car sold by a dealer is not worth the price they want for it - take at least 30% off and you might be getting closer to its real market value.

              Hi

Yes, I've seen and driven it ... it was originally up for sale at £11,995. It was the first Stag I looked at because its just around the corner from me in Penn, Bucks - but that was back in April this year.

Its a nice Mk1 Stag but having looked around it was more like a £7000 stag than a £12,000 Stag - I used the Stags at Wards etc for comparison. While it does have a huge history it is an older restoration.

My opinion, nice Stag - good history - overpriced compared to others!

              Cheers

              Alan

                Hi Alan

That's really interesting. It's now up for sale at 7995 and he really wants to get rid of it. From memory can you tell me what you thought the faults were?

                  Hi Mr 3ltr ...

Please bear in mind I was looking at a £11,995 Stag! He was selling it one behalf of a customer too ...

Overall it was a very nice Stag ... mechanically seemed to be OK and burbled along very nicely ...

The body work was very good but it is an aged restoration ... he did promise to put some of the paint chips right if I bought it ... nice colour though ...

Leather interior - this was nice. Wood was a bit on the tired side with laquer lifting on the edges etc ... same for the carpets ...

My biggest problem was that it was a non-overdrive manual - I ideally wanted an Auto or one with overdrive. Second to this is that I quite like the alloys and this had some tired old Mk1 wheel trims on it.

At £7995 I think it is still a little overpriced given what you can get at the established Stag dealers - now that I have seen quite a few Stags - yes, the history is fantastic but the resto is now 10 year old - so, yes it was bare metaled but its now a decade on ... I can't recall the present owners but they are a well know (and wealthy) business family in London (where this car has been for 10 years).

But I'm really fussy about the appearance and cosmetics of a car especially when they were asking nearly £12K!

                  Hope this helps ...

                  Cheers

                  Alan

I personally feel that the only way to buy a car like a stag is seeing it in the flesh, its abit like a thai bride really, anything can be airbrushed, and look fab on the inter web.

the first stag which i looked at 5 years ago , i was really excited about seeing ,it was white manual overdrive and looked fab in the web pictures, I dragged a mate over to nearchalfont, and as soon as the guy lifted the garage door i knew it was well overpriced, bad chome rust and dirty all over. he wanted 5.5k for it.i would have valued it at two.

Gauge the value of a car possibly by how long its been on the market, the good ones go fast, dont be put off by small things thats part of the fun,but if you dont know what your looking at, take a man /woman who does, also maybe a mate who is not emotionally attaced to the stag vibe,to do your haggeling.

if you see one advertised in my neck of the woods ie south of thames and east of the a24 i could take a little look for you first.

I used to work for Raleigh and would not like to make that trip for a pup.
