    rear seat belts

    Hello everybody,
my Mk I Stag is not yet provided with rear seat belts. All I could find in the softtop well are two eye-type rings. Where and how are the belts fastened? Pictures would be great!
I have searched "rear sear belts" in this forum search, but could not find any real help there.
    Best wishes,
    Dieter - from Germany.

These would possibly be from old clip on type lap belts.
providing the area has a at least 100mm square plates below the floor (the thread 7/16 unf from memory), will be the same as new replacement lap belts so take the eye bolts out and replace with the new bolts and spacers supplied with the new belts.

      Phil,
Thank you for your input. So I know now, where to find the two inner fixing points. But where do I find the two outside ones?
      Best wishes,
      Dieter.

They are towards the lower front of the inner wheel arch, slightly different positions on mk1 and 2.
If you look inside the arch from the outside you should be able to see the reinforcing plates.

Hello all, Thank you for your help. As my Stag is garaged at the moment, I will have to wait with this work.
          Best wishes, Dieter.

Hi Andrew do you still have the fitting instructions? I have a set but have misplaced the instructions. I could ask TH but if you have them great.

            Thanks

I have a mk 1 and fitted the older 2 point lap belts. If you remove the rear seat also you will see the anchor points

I can recommend the TH 3 point set, which come with clear fitting instructions. My only additional advice - I found it difficult to get a good line with a large enough drill to make the new holes in the rear wheel-arch drilling from the inside. So, I drilled small pilot holes from the inside, and then used a larger drill to open them up working from in the wheel-arch.

I am currently in the process of fitting 3-point rear seat-belts to my 72 Mk I.
                  There were existing captive nuts:-
                  • At the bottom front/inner of each wheel arch
                  • Two in the middle of the seat pan area (You can see where I have cut-away the sound deadening material).
You might just be able to see light shining through the hole & pilot hole that I drilled in the N/S lower/middle wheel arch, this will take the seat belt reel once the strengthening plate with captive nut (from CBS) is fitted to the outer side of the wheel arch.
The existing captive nuts had blanking plugs in them, but still took some cleaning-up, although they are OK now.

I fitted the Tony Hart supplied three point belts to my MK1 Stag a couple of months back.
You need to to release the shocker top bolts and push it down to give clearance to drill and bolt the upper bolts. The inboard bolt holes already exist, the wheel arch ones need to be drilled and the spreader plate supplied fitted when bolting up. It was easy enough to do, measure and check twice, drill once. For drilling I started small and stepped up drill sizes until the right size was reached.

                        Goldstar,
I probably have the instructions but will not be where they are for several weeks so maybe best to email TH for a new copy.

I am fitting my belts slightly differently to the recommended method, which is shown in the clear pictures from Martin.
I removed the shock top-mount, but didn't need to, as I have drilled holes further forward.
I intend to mount the seat-belt reel in my custom holes behind the seat and not at the front-lower wheel arch as per the recommended method.
                            I am doing this because:-
                            • I found that the shoulder strap was running across my neck when sitting in the back seat.
                            • I wanted to be able to extend by pulling the shoulder strap (as per the norm), rather than extending by pulling on the waist strap as in Martin's picture.
I think that with my method, there is a risk that the belt will not retract when the hood is down.
So, if my installation method doesn't work, I will revert to the recommended installation method, with the reel on the front-lower wheel arch.
                            Thanks,
                            Den
