    Leakproof exhaust splice, removeable?

About to put my new stainless exhaust in place. As I have no doubt I will be removing it in the future for various reasons, I would like it so it's removable. In other words, not slip and crimp connections so that I can get it out from the rear subframe arms.

I was thinking about cutting it and using band clamps, but it seems they all leak. None actually wrap all the way around. V flange can be welded on ( not by me though) but also require the same diameter of pipe where I would be slicing at the flared end.

Anyone have an idea how to make a non-leaking bolt on splice? Only thought I had was stainless steel foil tape under the clamp. Searching the WEB, people tried HVAC tape ( aluminum) without success but that actually makes sense.

I’ve been using Mikalor clamps on my stainless system for many years. No sealant, just copperslip, and no comments from the MOT tester about leaks. The sections come apart fairly easily after a quick spray with WD40.

So, you still use the slip joint, just these clamps snug instead of distorting like a U-bolt? Copper slip. New to me, searching... System came with a tube of sealent. Not slip.

Ordering the copper slip. So 1.75 Milakor hose clamps. I"ll give them a try. Even found them in a 4-pack for the same price as one.

I've used those same clamps for many years, but didn't think of using copperslip. Good call, Dave.

I had a set SS flanges laser cut to match the manifold outlet flange and replaced all the slip joints, except the one at the rear subframe. Now it is just a matter of undoing the 6 flange bolts to drop the section out.
                  Cheers Ian A

What about the intermediate pipe clamps that incorporate the hanger assembly.
Do you continue to use the standard D-clamp, or do you also add a Mikalor clamp?
                    Thanks,
                    Den

My stainless exhaust is over 30 years old, on its second Stag. Standard U bolt clamps, and it comes apart with no problem each time I want to take it off. I've lost count of how many times it has been off. My only modification was to remove the studs from the manifold flanges, helicoil where necessary, and use stainless bolts to attach the down-pipes.
