    Magenta

    Currently restoring my car and we have been looking at various colours. The car was Russet Brown and has a very low mileage and documented history. The temptation is to keep it a 77 model year colour but can’t get too excited about those. White, Carmine or Inca perhaps not that keen on the rest. The other colours considered are Mallard and Magenta. I bought a spray can of each from the brothers and the painter also ordered samples from his supplier in solvent based paint. The brothers Magenta seems much nearer the colour swatch in the original colour chart and is darker than the solvent paint which is pinker. There seems to be quite a variation in the cars I’ve seen. Any thoughts as to whether the colour is suppose to be deep or pinkish?

    And in the literature I have can’t see black as a special order colour. Is there any?

    mallard ever time for me, would be my choice if getting another, would have been my first choice, but happy with Tahiti

      Don’t worry too much.... a nicely restored stag looks fine in any colour!

        I think magenta looks great but mallard is amazing. I’m repainting my russet stag in Feb but it won’t be a standard colour. Mine is also a low owner well documented car but I just don’t care too much for originality

              Magenta for me, that is the colour we had ours changed to. It seems to be rarer than most of the other colours and always receives positive comments.

                  Colours seem to change popularity over the years, I did my MG in its original old English white when you rarely saw a white car and shortly afterwards white cars suddenly started appearing everywhere Mallard was out for a long while but recently has gained admirers. For me magenta is a classic 70’s colour that you will not see on a modern car, Mallard has become a colour for today’s tastes. I went with the original colour for my car, Mallard.

                        In my humble opinion, magenta is an "in your face" colour not for the shy owner but rather dated, of it's time! Mallard would be my choice as it looks good, is not showing it's age and is a rare and subtle colour. At the end of the day, which could you live with? Your choice is the right choice.                           Magenta......my favourite colour....I had a Dolomite Sprint in Magenta many years ago, so perhaps my preference is a bit biased!
                          I THINK the colour is meant to be DEEP, not "pinkish" but the lightening of shade might be caused by uv fading.
                          Yes, a bit "seventies", but the car is seventies too.
                          I'm lucky enough to have a car in my 2nd favourite colour, Tahiti Blue.
                          Recently I've seen restored cars painted in Range Rover Nightfire Red, Jaguar Sea Mist Green and (genuine) Ferrari Grigio Mettalizo.
                          All looked stunning, as did a newly sprayed Stag in French Blue.

                          So, your car, your choice!

                            It's internationally recognised that Carmine is the best colour for a Stag; if you need a second opinion, ask Dave Taylor (DJT), as he sold his white Stag purely to get one in Carmine.

                            Carmine Stags also have more powerful engines, are faster, and have much better fuel economy. They also command higher values than the lesser colours, and beat Ferrari's as babe-magnets.
