    Rear Seat Foam Replacement

    Hi All,

Just got my first stag :-) loved these cars when I was in my 20's but could never afford the assurance, now some 30+ years later it's a lot cheaper to insure them !

I've tried searching the forum but can't seem to find anything on replacing the rear seat foam in the base part to see where the bolts for the subframe were I found the seat well full of water and the seat foam perished. Is there anywhere that sells the rear seat foam I've tried the usual places and can only seam to find front seats. I guess worse case I can buy standard foam and cut to shape although it appears to be shipped so this might not work.

It's a 1973 Mk2 if that helps at all. I also have a couple of other issues but will post these separately.

Many thanks and looking forward to being part of the club.

That foam is not available and quite an unusual shape. Whatever you do don't throw the old one away or just rip it off (Like I Did!) It could be a useful pattern.

How is the wire frame for it? thats usually the first thing to go. Maybe start looking for a decent used one but they are all pretty shabby from what I have seen.

Tony White? "after 25 years of hoarding" thread, he has a lot of stuff.

Thanks for the quick responses, the old foam is crumbling where it was soaking wet so is really no good anymore, I'll look fo a used one see what I can find, is changing the vinyl over an easy job ?

Not a cheap option, but I had my rear seat re-covered by Aldridges, did a superb job

I think drew had a piece on the rear seat in the white/blue Bavarian stag thread.

Thanks for the info, what sort of price am I looking at from Aldridge's as this may be my only option if I can't find any good secondhand ones ?

Not sure but I think he is saying he had his existing foam recovered, even Aldridge do not have the foam, or the frame... unless they will fabricate them?

I refoamed and recovered my seat base. As mentioned above, the wires had corroded away in places but I used stainless steel tubing to repair the broken bits. The old cover wasn't too difficult to remove and the old foam was used as a template.

Latest price list from Aldridge quotes £117 for new vinyl back seat base cover and £250 for base and backrest covers. Fitting charge for both is £265 so probably around £150 for base only. No mention of foams.

Not sure now as I had all seats refoamed 5 years ago and covered with leather but that was getting on for £2.5k
